2006 RRCA Georgia National Volunteer Award

Three of our own joined 20 other volunteers from around the state to receive the 2006 RRCA Georgia National Volunteer Awards in Atlanta. Receiving awards were Woody and Elaine Cornwell as well as our webmaster Brad DeLay. They were hosted by Marlene Atwood, Georgia State Representative for the Road Runners Club of America. It was a great way for clubs from across the state to get together, discuss common issues, and network. Each club discussed and showcased their signature event. Of course the CCRC used the opportunity to showcase our signature event, the Carpet Capital 10 Miler.

The success of the RRCA and its clubs and events is based on volunteerism. Since its inception in 1958, the RRCA has relied on the spirit of volunteers to carry out programs, find sponsors, hand out water, work finish lines, publish newsletters, and many other necessary and important tasks. It is in recognition of these volunteers that the RRCA developed the RRCA National Volunteer Award Certificates. To be eligible to receive this award you have to have volunteered for 2000 hours and be nominated by your club

Also present was the race director and her team for the ING Georgia Marathon. Race director, Victoria Seahorn announced that very soon they will be topping out with their cap of 15,000 entrants. It was also announced that Woody would be measuring and certifying the course the next morning.
