2008 CCRC Runner Of The Year Series

The Runner Of The Year Series for 2008 is a series of 16 races (9 for Junior runners), most of which are local or very close to the Dalton area. Racing gets underway March 8 th and continues until December 31 st .

ROY information will always be posted on the CCRC website by the greatest web master in the running world, Dr. Brad Delay. David Leatherman will poetically remind you about the upcoming races and to submit your race times after each race. Patrick Douglas will burn up several calculators tallying all the points you speedsters rack up and will keep the results up to date so you will know exactly what you have to do to stay in the lead or track down your fiercest competitors. All you have to do is show up and run.

We wish you all a safe and fun racing season. Now….tighten up those shoe laces, go to the Port-A-Pot one last time, straighten up that race number and get up to that starting line. The gun is about to fire on the ‘08 season.

Rules

Junior Divisions

Participants can compete in up to 9 ROY races this year (see calendar for applicable races).
Participants are not required to volunteer. Participants must score (by racing) in a minimum of 4 specified ROY events during the season to be eligible for ROY honors.
Also, if a Junior chooses to compete in an additional race that is not on the Junior calendar, they can earn a one time 50 point bonus as long as they report it and the race is at least a 5K. This bonus race does not count toward their minimum of 4 ROY races.

Open Divisions

Participants must score points (by racing) in a minimum of 6 ROY events throughout the year and must volunteer in at least one event throughout the year to be eligible for season ending awards. Volunteer credit will only be given when a contestant volunteers at one of the specified ROY races or events (see calendar, only races listed as Volunteer Credit will be counted). Please note, this year you will not be able to receive Volunteer credit and race points from the same event. YOU MUST volunteer for the whole event to get credit.
Points will be awarded in each age group as follows: 100 for first place, 90 for second place, 80 for third place, 70 for fourth place, 60 for fifth place, etc to 9 th place. Everyone who participates past 9 th place will be awarded 10 points. You are only racing against other people in CCRC.
A one time bonus of 100 points will be awarded for competing in a race of marathon distance or longer throughout the year. A one time bonus of 75 points will be awarded for competing in a half marathon. NEW THIS YEAR – A one time bonus of 50 points will be awarded for competing in a race of 10K distance or more that is not on the ROY schedule. The marathon/half marathon/10K points are awarded for completion of one of these events in the 2008 calendar year. Please make sure we post your proper points after the first race if you have already completed one of these races. Like we said, all you have to do is show up and run.
If you decide to change age groups during the season, your points will not carry over.

Awards will be presented at the Annual CCRC Banquet. If you have any questions regarding Runner of the Year, please email patricklyn@alltel.net or call at 259-5549.

Questions

Due to the number of races on the schedule, we must ask for your help in posting points this year. It is up to each participant to email their name, age, race competed in, and finishing time to Patrick Douglas at patricklyn@alltel.net . This information needs to be sent no later than Wednesday following the race so we can keep the points list current. Any Volunteer credit or Marathon/half marathon/10K points need to be sent in as well so we can get them posted. Many of these race results will not be posted on the Internet. Unfortunately, neither David Leatherman nor Patrick Douglas will be able to travel to each of these races to get your results. If either David or Patrick is at the race, you can give your times there and not have to send via email. If you do not have access to email, you can leave the information at 706-259-5549.
